A seminar was organised by the Department of Botany through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 3rd December 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Room No. LR, Arts Block of Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar with the title “Bioremediation of Distillery Spent Wash- A Noble Approach for Sustainable Agriculture”. An eminent academician and researcher Dr. Sarada Prasad Mohapatra, Head of P.G. Department of Botany, N.C.Autonomous College, Jajpur graced the occasion as Resource Person. Honourable President GB Sri Sunil Kumar Rath, Dr. Debjani Singh along with all the teaching and non-teaching staff and students joined the occasion and made it a grand success.
The guest invitation and hosting was done by Ms. Lalimaa Priyaadarshini, student of +3 2nd year Botany (Hons). This was followed by Jyoti Avahan and Veda Chanting (by the students). Mrs. Saibalini Behera (HOD, Department of Botany) delivered the welcome address with offering of saplings. It was followed by guest introduction by Dr. Mousumi Madhusmita Pattnaik, Lecturer, Department of Botany and Keynote address by honourable Resource Person Dr. Sarada Prasad Mohapatra. In his talk Dr. Mohapatra threw light on adverse impact of distillery spent wash and how it is impacting our life through food by increased melanoidins content. He also showed us the research work on reduction of melanoidins content through bioremediation approach and in his research, he has found out certain bacteria and fungi
have the capability in bioaccumulating these substances. His slogan for the student was 3 ‘E’ (Education, Economy & Environment)
The talk was followed by a brain storming question & answer session. Then President GB Sri Sunil Kumar Rath advised the students to adopt sustainable approach and such problems can be tackled by Youth Will, Government Will and Researcher Will. Then event was followed by felicitation of the guest by Principal, Dr. Debjani Singh and felicitation to the President GB Sri Sunil Kumar Rath and Principal Dr. Debjani Singh by Mrs. Saibalini Behera. The talk was concluded by offering of gratitude by our student Ms. Saisimran Pattanaik (+3 3rd Year Botany Honours. The event was concluded with Sarba Dharma Prathana.
