The Department of Psychology, in collaboration with IQAC, organised a seminar on “Sleep Learning: A New Approach to Cognitive Development” on 18 September 2026 at the LR, from 11:00 a.m. onwards. The programme aimed to explore the significant relationship between sleep, learning, memory, and cognitive development.

The programme commenced with the Welcome Address and Introduction to the Theme by Dr. Niharika Das, Principal-cum-HOD, Department of Psychology, who highlighted the relevance of the topic in the context of contemporary psychological understanding.

This was followed by the introduction of the resource person, Dr. Santa Mishra, Professor of Psychology, by Mrs. Barsha Rani Ojha, Lecturer in Psychology. An introductory Odissi dance performance by Bidusmita then added a graceful cultural dimension to the programme.

Dr. Santa Mishra delivered an insightful talk on the theme, highlighting the role of sleep in learning, memory consolidation, attention, and cognitive functioning. Her session offered students meaningful insights into the emerging perspectives on sleep and its contribution to effective learning and cognitive development.

Following the resource person’s talk, Dr. Santa Mishra was felicitated in recognition of her valuable presence and contribution to the seminar. The programme then witnessed the inauguration of the book PsyQuest Apparatus Atlas, authored by Mrs. Barsha Rani Ojha, Lecturer in Psychology. The book, focusing on psychological apparatus and practical learning, marked a significant academic addition to the programme.

The academic and cultural proceedings continued with a vibrant Sambalpuri dance performance by Mohini and Salini, which added a cultural touch to the event.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Santwana Mohanty, Lecturer in Psychology, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, college authorities, faculty members, and students for their valuable contribution to the successful conduct of the seminar.

Overall, the seminar was an informative, engaging, and enriching academic programme, combining scholarly discourse, cultural expression, and academic publication in a meaningful celebration of learning and psychology.
