The Department of English, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a seminar on “From Fear to Fluency: How to Speak Confidently” on 25th September 2026. Fr. Jerome Sequeira, Director of Human Life Centre, Bhubaneswar graced the occasion as the resource person. Dr. Niharika Das, Principal presented the welcome address and encouraged the students to develop greater confidence in spoken English. Miss Akankhya Mohapatra, Lecturer in English introduced the resource person, Fr. Jerome Sequeira, highlighting his extensive experience in education, humanitarian work, leadership and social service.
Addressing the students, Fr. Jerome Sequeira focused on the psychological barriers that often prevent individuals from speaking confidently. He addressed common myths surrounding spoken English and emphasised that fluency is not achieved through the fear of making mistakes, but through regular practice and the willingness to speak. The seminar witnessed active participation from the students, who interacted with the resource person and shared their questions and concerns regarding speaking confidently in English. Mrs. Manini Pattanaik, Head of the Department of English, Mrs. Nilam Lakra, Lecturer in English, along with other faculty members and students, were present during the programme and actively participated in the interaction.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Pravati Panda, Lecturer in English, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, the Principal, faculty members, students, and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the seminar. The programme was moderated by Koina Tamang, +3 3rd Year student who facilitated the proceedings. The seminar provided the students with valuable practical insights into overcoming the fear of speaking and developing confidence through continuous practice.
