A workshop was organised by students & faculties of Department of Botany through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 29th September 2026 in Room No. SC-11 & Botany Laboratory of Science Block of Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar with the title “Botanic Bubbles-An Eco-Essence” (Herbal Soap Making). The concept was formulated to showcase the skill acquisition done by our +3 third year 5th semester students during their internship programme (during 7th May 2026- 7th June 2026) at Society for People’s Awareness Care and Entrepreneurship (SPACE, a nodal organisation of KVIC), State Government of Odisha with the topic “Skill Development Training-Herbal Soap Making”. To foster foundational skills in small-scale business planning, including product making, costing, labelling, and marketing of eco-friendly hygiene products the workshop was a medium to explore & present their acquired skills. The students named their herbal soap as “FLORIVA” and the herbal variations were extracted from different plant & animal products viz. rose, aloe vera, charcoal, multani mitti, goat milk, neem, orange peel soap etc.
The programme was started at 11:00 AM in the SC-11 and hosted by Ms. Nandinee Nayak of +3 3rd Year Botany by inviting honourable guests to the dais, that was followed by Jyoti Avahan. The principal-in-charge of our college Dr. Prasant Kumar Pradhan deliberated the welcome address. Then Mrs. Saibalini Behera, HOD, Deptt. of Botany gave a brief introduction of the guests and threw light on NEP 2020 and the objective of the workshop that is ‘get degree with skill’. The Deptt. of Botany celebrated World Environmental Health Day on 26th September 2026 and organised a competition on oral presentations by the students of botany. And the winners were given certificates on the day of workshop by our honourable guests.
The workshop-cum-hands training was organised at Botany Laboratory, SSSCW at 12:00 noon. This was the most interesting session for all the students and faculties as they experienced a great learning on herbal soap making. They were also very much excited to see varied soaps prepared earlier by our students and within fractions of hour all the Floriva hand-made soaps were sold. The students also showed physically the preparation of herbal soap and also expressed their motivation to take it as a start-up in future. All the questions thrown by audience were beautifully by our students and feedback were also taken. The workshop was concluded by vote of thanks by Ms. Urmila Sahoo, student of +3 3rd year Botany.
