English has been taught in this college since its establishment in 1981. Honours was introduced in the academic year 2016-17. In addition to honours there is also communicative English(SEC)and AICC Course in CBCS syllabus which is followed by English department under RDWU. The purpose of the commencement of the department is to provide a platform for the development of multidimensional personalities. For better understanding of the subject and developing literary sensibilities of the students, various activities are conducted. The Department of English functions under the university of Rama Devi Women’s University. It offers Honours courses since 2013. The most significant feature of this department is its holistic growth of its students. It also provides knowledge of literature along with communicative competence. The teachers of the department are actively involved and have been working on several UGC projects like MRP(Miner/Major Research Project)etc. Several academic activities ie; seminars, workshops, competitions and quizzes are being organized by the department with eminent resource persons. Dr Ramesh Chandra Malik, Asst Prof, Utkal University graced the seminar on “Mother tongue, English and Multilingualism in India” on 26th Nov 2024.
The department provides UG honours courses along with other compulsory courses. At present it offers American Literature, Postcolonial Literature, Classical Literature, World Literature and Partition Literature etc. CBCS course structure is active in the department. The UG course in English lays emphasis on both literary analysis and creative work.
