The 45th Foundation Day of Sri Sathya Sai Women’s College was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 18th August. The Principal of the college, Dr. Niharika Das, delivered the welcome address and presented the annual report of the college. Dr. Mrunmayee Rath, the Cultural Coordinator and Head of the Department of Philosophy, introduced the guests on this special occasion.
Mr. Pradeepta Kumar Mohanty, Chairman of SNM group and president of CII graced the event as the esteemed guest. He emphasized the integral role of academic institutions in the holistic development of students and highlighted the importance of women’s education.
Another distinguished guest, Dr. Ramakant Mahapatra— a professor of Mathematics at Kamala Nehru Women’s College as well as a renowned satirical poet— spoke on the significance of education and morality in students’ lives. Through his self-composed humorous poems, he inspired the students about the greatness of life and learning.
Esteemed columnist, journalist, film producer, and Chief Editor of the popular monthly “Kadambini”, Dr. Itirani Samanta attended the occasion as chief speaker. She highlighted that struggle, patience, concentration, dedication, and perseverance are the key determinants of a student’s success. Drawing inspiration from the Indian epic Mahabharata, she motivated students to build an ideal and well-rounded personality.
Dr. Satyaswarup Pattnaik, State President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, Odisha, attended as chief guest. He deliberated on the vital role of girls in the advancement of the Odia community and collective progress, and underscored the importance of value-based education in academic life.
All the seated dignitaries on stage were warmly felicitated with shawls, mementos, and letters of appreciation. During the event, students who had secured the highest marks and brought glory to the institution in arts and science subjects were honored with certificates and mementos from the guests on behalf of the college.
Arundhati Mohanty, a student of the Zoology Department, was awarded as the best graduate. Banisha Mahapatra, who secured the highest marks and ranked top at both college and university level in Psychology, received a trophy along with a cash reward of ₹5000.
The function began with a melodious Vedic chant and the “Bharat Vandana” performed by the students. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shashwati Swagatika, Lecturer in Economics, while Sujata Pahan, Lecturer in Odia, conducted the proceedings. The Vote of Thanks was offered by Dr. Aruni Mishra, Head of the Department of History.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all the college’s students, faculty, staff, and well-wishing alumni. A colorful cultural program was presented by the students. The ceremony concluded with an all-religion prayer and the ceremonial “Mangala Arati”.
