National Education Day in India is observed on November 11th each year to honour the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a prominent freedom fighter, scholar and the first Minister of Education in independent India. Azad was instrumental in shaping the educational landscape of the country, advocating for universal primary education, girls’ education and cultural & scientific advancement. The day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of education and to recognise the role of education plays in building a progressive society.
This year National Education Day was celebrated at Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar on 11th November at 11:00 a.m. in Room No. LR, Arts Block with the theme “Empowering the future through quality education”. Two learned personalities with huge experiences were invited as Guests for celebration of this important day. SQN LDR (Prof.) Ashish Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Odisha Bigyan Academy, Government of Odisha was Chief Guest for the occasion and Sri Radha Nath Satpathy, IAS (Retd.), Former Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu graced the occasion as Chief Speaker.
The Celebration was hosted by Mrs. Pravati Panda (Lecturer, Department of English) and the celebration was started with jyoti avahan and veda chanting by the students of this college. It was followed by welcome address and introduction to the guests by our honourable Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Debjani Singh with offering of saplings. It was followed by a brief address by our President, Governing Body (SSSCW, BBSR) Shri Sunil Kumar Rath. The observation of National Day was done through the support of IQAC team of our college and the IQAC coordinator Dr. (Mrs.) Swapna Mallick briefed the entire fraternity regarding the importance of National Education Day along with describing the key objectives of NEP-2020 in a nutshell. Then honourable Chief Speaker of the occasion Sri Radha Nath Satpathy addressed the staffs and students regarding the importance of education and left a lot of food for thought. After his magnificent speech, Chief Guest SQN LDR (Prof.) Ashish Kumar Mohanty highlighted the power of knowledge and importance of an educator in recognising the psychology of students’ mind to mould them as per the current changing world. Then Guests’ felicitation was done and then prizes were distributed to the successful students of the essay competition. An essay competition was organised on 7th November 2024 in both English & Odia languages in LR at 11:00 a.m. The topic for the competition was “The role of quality education in shaping tomorrow’s leadership” in English & “Bhabisyatara netrutwa shrusti karibare gunatmaka shikhyara Bhoomika” in Odia. Finally, the celebration was concluded by offering of gratitude by Dr. Mousumi Madhusmita Pattnaik and Sarba Dharma Prarthana.
