A seminar was organized by the Department of Botany through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 15th September 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at LR (ARTS Block), Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar with the title “Climate change and Ozone Depletion: Interconnected Challenges”. Dr. Monalisa Mohanty, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Ramadevi Women’s University, Bhubaneswar graced the occasion as Resource Person.
The guest invitation and hosting was done by Ms. Lalimaa Priyaadarshini, student of +3 3rd year Botany (Hons). We introduced a human model of Ozone Layer with the help of a student who was earth and she is holding a blue umbrella as the ozone layer which protects us from the UV rays coming from the Sun. Dr. Niharika Das (Principal, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, BBSR) delivered the welcome address. Mrs. Saibalini Behera (HOD, Department of Botany) delivered address with offering of saplings. Dr. Mousumi Madhusmita Pattnaik (Lecturer, Department of Botany) delivered the guest introduction. It was followed by Keynote address by honorable Resource Person Dr. Monalisa Mohanty. In her talk Dr. Mohanty threw light on what is Ozone layer how it was discovered by the scientists and the formation of Ozone layer as O3 and amount of Ozone layer in the atmosphere. She also talk about how the depletion of Ozone layer is forming and how it is interconnected with climatic changes and due to which we are facing the impacts of the depletion. She also showed us a video related the topic of Ozone layer depletion. She also suggested some of the solutions we can do to slow down the depletion.
The talk was followed by a brain storming question & answer session. Then event was followed by felicitation of the guest by Dr. Niharika Das (Principal, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, BBSR) and felicitation of our esteemed principal by Mrs. Saibalini Behera (HOD, Department of Botany). The talk was concluded by offering of gratitude by our student Ms. Arpita Priyadarshini BIndhani (+3 3rd Year Botany Honours). The event was concluded with a special activity of writing slogans on the chart paper our esteemed Resource Person, respected Principal Mam, honorable Teachers and all the students present there.
