On September 17, 2025, SSSCW actively participated in the state and national-level campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, a joint initiative of the Government of Odisha and the Government of India. The mission aims to plant approximately 75 lakh trees across Odisha, encouraging every individual to plant and dedicate a tree in the name of their mother — blending environmental responsibility with emotional significance.

The event at SSSCW was led by the NSS Wing, which organized a mass plantation drive within and around the college campus. A special focus was given to planting medicinal and native trees known for their ecological and health benefits. The varieties of saplings planted included:

Amla (Indian Gooseberry)

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)

Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)

Arjun (Terminalia arjuna)

Karanja (Pongamia pinnata)

Neem (Azadirachta indica)

These species are not only crucial for biodiversity and climate resilience but also hold significant value in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

The Principal, faculty members, NSS Program Officers, and student volunteers took part enthusiastically in the drive. The event concluded with an awareness session on the role of trees in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and maintaining ecological balance.

The celebration of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at SSSCW was a heartfelt and impactful event that beautifully combined environmental consciousness with personal emotion, and aligned with both national and state efforts towards a greener future.
