A one day seminar was organized by Department of Political Science through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on the topic entitled “Future of Democracy in India and The Role of Citizens” on 29th August 2024 in Sri Sathya Sai college for women, Bhubaneswar where Dr Pratip Kumar Mishra, President, Odisha Political Science Association, Vice president, IIPA, Odisha Regional branch was invited as the Rource person to deliver his talk. The seminar was held with the gracious presence of the Principal Dr Debjani Shingh, President of Governing Body Mr Sunil Kumar Rath, Miss Aparna Patra, HOD, Department of Political science, Miss Nirupama Swain, Lecturer in Political science, all other faculties of the college and students from various departments. The seminar was hosted by Miss Nirupama Swain, Lecturer in political science and started after lightening up of lamps in front of the almighty followed by the introduction of the theme and the guest presented by Miss Aparna Patra, HOD, Department of Political science. The seminar commenced with a keynote address by Dr Pratip Kumar Mishra who emphasized upon the historical significance of democratic values in India and the critical role of the citizens play in upholding these values. The speaker highlighted that active citizen participation is vital for a robust democracy, and encouraged attendees to take responsibility for civic engagement. His talk was followed by a brainstorming question-answer session. After that the President of the governing body also addressed the meeting. At the end of the seminar a formal vote of thanks was presented by Miss Rajalaxmi Parida, Student, +3 2nd year, Department of political science.
The primary objective of this seminar was to make the young students aware about their roles and duties as citizens in the dynamism of Indian democracy. It was an effort to inculcate the civic values among the students. The seminar aimed to explore the evolving landscape of democracy in India and the essential contributions of citizens in shaping its future. This seminar bought together the students, faculties of different departments to engage in meaningful discussions about the challenges and opportunities faced by Indian democracy.
