A one day seminar was organized by Department of Sociology through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on the topic entitled “Harassment of Women at Workplace in 21st Century”: A Sociological Understanding on 14th Sep 2024 in Sri Sathyasai College for Women, BBSR, where Santosh Kumar Rath, Retd. Prof JKBK, College, Cuttack was invited as the resource person to deliver his talk. The seminar was held with the gracious presence of the Principal Dr. Debjani Singh, President of Governing body Mr. Sunil Kumar Rath, Mrs Smita Biswal HOD department of Sociology, Mrs. Dr. Snigdha Samadarsani Lecturer in Sociology, all other faculties of the college and students from various departments. The seminar was hosted by Monalisha Mohanthy student of +3 3rd year and started after lighting up of lamps in front of the almighty. The guest introduction given by Dr. Snigdha Samadarsani and the introduction of theme was by Mrs. Smita Biswal, HOD Department of Sociology. A video clip was played that was prepared by the students of the Sociology Department on how a woman harassed in her workplace. The seminar commenced with a keynote address by Prof. Santosh Kumar Rath who emphasized the harassment of women not only presented in 21st century but also from ancient period. How women are harassing physically, mentally, verbally, sexually etc. in their workplace. Although we talks about women empowerment and they started working outside their home with paid labour, but the mind set of people has not changed. Patriarchy is present in the private as well as public sphere of the society. Due to patriarchic attitude of people women are subordinated in their public and private domain.
His talk was followed by a brainstorming question-answer session. After that the president of the governing body also addressed the meeting. Then the Principal felicitated to the Resource person. At the end of the seminar a formal vote of thanks was presented by Miss Aliva Mohanthy student of +3 3rd year.
The primary aim of the seminar was to create awareness among women on harassment at workplace. Several women are harassed but they are not reported or openly sharing their problem due to their fearness. It result various problems in their life. So, women should know about their rights and opportunity given by the Government for them. Various Provision are their against harassment of women at workplace we should know about that.
