A communication mail from Ramadevi Women’s University regarding
participation request for a Three Days Hands-on Workshop on “Molecular and Microbial Techniques-Bridging concepts with NEP-2020 Curriculum” was made to me through our Principal Dr. Niharika Das on dt. 07.08.2025 and the registration link was filled up immediately. This workshop was scheduled to be held for 3 days from dt. 21.08.2025 to dt. 23.08.2025. The organising team made a whatsapp group named ‘NEP BIOWORKSHOP @ RDWU’ on 19.08.2025 by adding 36 participants in that group. Two members Dr. Mousumi Madhusmita Pattnaik (Department of Botany) & Mrs. Bindulata Panda (Department of Zoology) represented for our college in that workshop. The organising team was cordial and professional and updated us about the programme from time to time through whatsapp messages. The technical programme for the 3 days’ workshop was communicated the previous day (dt. 20.08.2025 at 12:25pm).

On 21st Aug’25 the physical registration was done at 9:30 am-10:30am and then the inaugural Session was done at New Auditorium, RDWU at 10:30am by welcoming guests and lighting of the lamp by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Rama Devi Women’s University Prof. Chandi Charan Rath; Chief Guest Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Utkal University; Special Guest Prof. Sasmita Mohanty,Director, College Development Council; Convener Prof. Raj Kumar Joshi, Head, Dept of Biotechnology & Co-convener Prof. Sikha Singh, Head, Dept of Life Sciences. The technical sessions were conducted in the Smart room of Department of Life Science & Department of Biotechnology and the experimental sessions were conducted in the Student Laboratories. The workshop was quite insightful and conducted very systematically. The workshop was liked by most of the participants as it was more of practical knowledge and balanced approach to educate our NEP students. During registration even they provided a printed laboratory manual that helped us to follow the experiments conducted in the practical sessions.

The resource persons for the technical sessions were Prof. Nilotpala Pradhan, Senior Principal Scientist & Professor (AcSIR), CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar (Topic- Role of Microbial Techniques in Diagnostics & Industry); Dr. Bimal Prasanna Mohanty, FNAAS Professor of Biochemistry, SOA University & Former Asst. Director General (ICAR), New Delhi (Topic- Proteomics Technology – Applications in Biotechnology & Life Sciences); Dr. Jitendra Kumar Sundaray, Principal Scientist & Head, Fish Genetics & Biotechnology Division, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar (Topic- Bioinformatics and its role in improvement of living organisms). The experimental sessions contents were Sterilization, Media Preparation & Aseptic Techniques, Microbial Culture, Isolation & Enumeration (Spread plate, Streak plate), Gram Staining & Microscopy, Methods of DNA Extraction (Plant and microbial samples), Quantification of DNA using Spectrophotometer & Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, PCR: Principle, Setup, and Amplification, Media preparation for plant tissue culture, Inoculation of plant samples in tissue culture media, Hardening of in vitro regenerated plants, Usage of bioinformatic tools like BLAST, MEGA, primer designing for genetic analysis and research. The workshop was informative about the new approach towards research avenues available for our students along with enhancement of our knowledge regarding the technologies and equipment developed for current scientific studies.

Valedictory session was done on 23rd Aug’25 at 3:30 pm at the Smart Room of Life Science in presence of the Chief Guest Prof. Luna Samanta, Chairperson, PG Council, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack and Prof. Chandi Charan Rath, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Rama Devi Women’s University. Feedbacks on the workshop was given by Mrs. Bindulata Panda & Dr. Mousumi Madhusmita Pattnaik and then certificates were distributed to all of us. Finally, the pleasant, knowledge enhancing workshop was concluded by a photo session.
