The Department of History, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women successfully organised a seminar on the topic “Position of Women in Ancient India” at Room No.10. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from about 80 students along with faculty members of different departments.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Aruni Mishra, Head of the Department of History, who warmly greeted the dignitaries, participants, and students, setting the tone for the event.
Following this, the Principal Dr.Niharika Das delivered an insightful comparative analysis of the position of women in different historical contexts, highlighting the transition from the ancient period to the present day.
Mr. Basant Kumar Sahoo, faculty member, then introduced the theme of the seminar, providing a conceptual framework for the discussions that followed. He elaborated on the significance of examining women’s role in ancient Indian society and the relevance of such studies in present times.
The students of the Department of History actively participated by presenting seminar papers. Their presentations reflected commendable effort, critical thinking, and scholarly engagement with the theme.
The highlight of the seminar was the address by the resource person, Mrs. Snehalata Senapati (Retd. Reader) who delivered an in-depth lecture on the role and position of women in ancient India. She further drew comparisons with the status of women in contemporary society, offering critical insights and raising thought-provoking questions for discussion.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Miss Sunita Naik, Lecturer in History, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, HOD, faculty members, the resource person, and students for their valuable contributions and active participation.
The seminar was an academically enriching experience, fostering awareness and dialogue on the position of women across historical periods. It provided a platform for students and faculty to engage in meaningful discussions, making the event highly successful.
