The Department of Psychology, Sri Sathya Sai College for Women, Bhubaneswar, organized a departmental seminar on the theme “Resilient Souls: The Mental Health Landscape of Women.” The event was held with the aim of creating awareness about the psychological resilience of women and addressing the mental health challenges they face in contemporary society. The seminar began with a warm welcome extended to the guest, followed by the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the enlightenment that knowledge brings.
The formal address was delivered by Smt. Santwana Mohanty, Lecturer, Department of Psychology. She warmly greeted the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and the invited guest, and emphasized the significance of the seminar’s theme in today’s social context. Following this, Mrs. Barsha Rani Ojha, Lecturer in the Department, introduced the esteemed Resource Person, Smt. Lekha Das, providing a brief overview of her academic and professional contributions in the field of mental health. The theme of the seminar was introduced by Dr. Niharika Das, Principal and Head of the Department of Psychology. She elaborated on the relevance of the topic in today’s fast-changing world and encouraged students to engage actively in discussions around mental health.
Smt. Lekha Das then took the stage and delivered an insightful and impactful address. Her talk highlighted the multifaceted aspects of women’s mental health, including the psychological impact of societal expectations, emotional labor, and gender-specific stressors. She also spoke about the importance of resilience, self-care, and community support, engaging the audience with her practical insights and compassionate approach. In recognition of her valuable contribution, the department felicitated Smt. Lekha Das with a token of appreciation.
Following the expert session, Ms. Yashshree Nayak, a +3 3rd Year student from the Department of Psychology, proposed the vote of thanks. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Resource Person, the Principal, faculty members, student volunteers, and all participants who made the event a success. As part of the cultural segment of the seminar, a group dance was performed by the students, creatively reflecting the inner strength and resilience of women, in alignment with the seminar’s central theme.
The seminar concluded with a formal ending note delivered by Ms. Swayamshree Ghosh, a +3 3rd Year student, who summarized the key points discussed and expressed hope that the knowledge gained would inspire further awareness and positive action toward women’s mental health.
Overall, the seminar was a meaningful and enlightening experience for all attendees. It successfully brought together academic insights, student engagement, and cultural expression to highlight the vital importance of supporting and understanding the mental health journey of women.
